William J. Mathews

72 year old, William Mathews (Jim), of Fair Oaks, passed away very peacefully April 27, 2023, at his home.

On November 1, 1950, Jim was born to Richard and Etheline (Mitchell) Mathews in East Chicago, Indiana. Jim served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971. He worked and retired from Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad as a carmen. Jim was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Lodge # T6295. Jim married the love of his life, Ronda Shadle on August 10, 1985.  He loved spending time with family. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and motorcycling. Jim loved his music, both playing his guitars and writing his own songs.

Jim is survived by his family: cherished and loving wife: Ronda, children: Jimbo (Tammy) Mathews, Christina (Pat) Powell, Melina Mathews, Jacob Mathews, numerous grandchildren & great-grandchildren, mother: Etheline Mathews, his beloved nieces & nephews, and sister-in-law: Denise Mathews.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, brother David Mathews, and sister: Deborah Nelson, and nephew: Danny Nelson.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at the Boersma Funeral Home, 90 East Grove St., Wheatfield, Indiana. Services for Jim will take place at the funeral home, on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m., with Pastor Andy Majorins officiating.

Per Jim’s wishes cremation will follow.
