Wayne ‘Calvin’ Bovenkerk, 77 year old, of West Lafayette, formerly of DeMotte, passed away January 2, 2024.
On December 22, 1946, in Rensselaer, Indiana, Calvin was born to Casper and Maggie (Van Der Molen) Bovenkerk. Calvin graduated from Wheatfield High School, and was an overhead crane operator at Bethleham Steel for over 30 years. Calvin also served 2 years in the U.S. Army. He married Nancy Kooy, on October 24, 1987, in Illinois. He was a member of the DeMotte American Legion Post #440. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid fan of the K.V. basketball teams. Calvin had the ability to never meet a stranger.
Wayne Calvin, is survived by his children: Brad Bovenkerk, April (David) Gonzales, step-daughter: Pamela (Rick) Owen, 2 grandchildren: Isabella and Miranda Gonzales, 4 step-grandchildren: Brianna, Kyle, Derrick, and Sarah Owen, sister: Betty (Ron) Lintner, and former spouse & continued friend: Robin Bovenkerk.
Wayne Calvin was preceded in death by his wife: Nancy, parents: Casper & Maggie, brothers: Paul & Dale, and sister: Donna.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 8, 2024, at American Reformed Church, DeMotte, Indiana. Services for Calvin will take place at the church on Monday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Troy Nanninga officiating. Interment will follow at the Holland Cemetery, DeMotte, Indiana.
