Trudy Darlene Wallace, née Huff, passed away peacefully at Glen Ridge Nursing Home in Louisville, Kentucky, on August 24, 2024, at the age of 82. Born September 9, 1941, in Valparaiso, Indiana, Trudy spent her formative years in her hometown before marrying her husband, Jim, and settling in DeMotte, Indiana, eventually spending winters together in Palmetto, Florida.
Trudy was the beloved daughter of Ellis and Evelyn (Wade) Huff, both of whom preceded her in death. She grew up alongside her three sisters, Judy Hawes, Linda Snyder, and Bonnie Miller, with whom she shared a special bond throughout her life.
Trudy was married to James K. Wallace, her husband of 62 years, who passed away on March 6, 2022. Together, they built a beautiful family that became the center of Trudy’s world. She is survived by her three sons: James W. and his partner Kristie, Jeffrey and his wife Kayleen, and Jason and his wife Brooke. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren—Andrew, Zachary, Micah, Alexa, Jamie Deerr, Jesse, Adam, and James F.—and her nine cherished great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her grandson, Jordan.
Trudy will be remembered by all who knew her for her frivolous wit and joy for life. She brought laughter wherever she went, and her presence will be deeply missed. A woman of habit, Trudy had a ritual of enjoying chocolate every afternoon at 3:00 p.m., a tradition that brought her great pleasure. She also found joy in the occasional visit to the casino, where she played with her customary $100 under the frugal eye of Jim.
Trudy enjoyed volunteering as a Special Education teaching assistant at Portage (Indiana) High School and was a lover of all animals, filling her home with a veritable zoo over the years. She had a soft spot for every creature except insects, of which she brooked none.
Trudy’s family and friends will remember her fondly and celebrate the life she led. Her spirit of joy and humor will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
A celebration of Trudy’s life will be held at a later date.
Thank you, Wallace family, for providing this obituary.
