81 year old, Thomas Strain passed away on June 21, 2024 at Franciscan Health Crown Point with his loving family around him.
On December 27, 1942, Thomas was born to Ralph and Bethel (Spriggs) Strain in Wheatfield, Indiana. He married the love of his life, Janice Noble, on November 5, 1966 at the Wheatfield Baptist Church. Thomas graduated in 1960 from Wheatfield High School and in 1965 from the Purdue University College of Pharmacy. He was a registered pharmacist in Indiana for 42 years, working first at People’s Drug Store in Plymouth, then moving to Hively’s Pharmacy in Monticello. Later Thomas became an independent pharmacist with ownership of Scheddell & Wendt Bros. Drugs in Hebron and Kouts, retiring in 2007.
Thomas was an avid supporter of his alma mater, Purdue University, a lifetime golfer and fisherman, a major sports fan (highlighted with a trip to see Purdue Football play in the 2001 Rose Bowl), and a devoted servant to his community. He won the Senior Golf Championship at Sandy Pines Golf Course in DeMotte, Indiana in 2017 and 2019. Thomas was a longtime member of the Freemasons, Shriners, and the Wheatfield Lions Club. He was also an elected member of the Wheatfield Township Advisory Board.
Surviving are, his loving wife of 57 years, Janice Strain; his children, Stephanie (Scott) Hazlett, Errol (Irawati) Strain, and Margaret (Christopher) Phillips. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Brandon (Caitlyn) Hazlett, Abigail Hazlett, Arjanti Strain, and Kirana Strain; great-grandchild Thomas Ray Hazlett; and siblings: Elizabeth Ann (Jack) Taulman, and Janet (Barry) Carter.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents.
Per Thomas’s wishes, cremation will take place.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 7, 2024, from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. at the Pavilion at Sandy Pines, Sandy Pines Dr. DeMotte, IN 46310.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wheatfield Lions Club.
