Shirley Swart

88 year old, Shirley L. Swart, of Elkhart, formerly of DeMotte/Rensselaer, passed away October 14, 2024.

On October 20, 1935, Shirley was born to James Sr. and Evelyn (Bultema) Wiers in Lansing, Illinois. She graduated from DeMotte High School, class of 1953. Shirley married Leonard ‘Joe’ Swart on December 7, 1953, in DeMotte, Indiana. She was a Real Estate Agent/Broker in DeMotte. She was a member of First Reformed Church, and then the Trinity Presbyterian Church, of DeMotte. Shirley liked calling and talking with family, and especially spending time with her sister Elaine.

Shirley is survived by her children: Leonard ‘Joey’ Swart, Lorraine (Steve) Mercer, John (Teresa) Swart, 5 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren, and siblings: Elaine Holleman, and James (Darlene) Wiers.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband: Leonard Jr. ‘Joe’ Swart, grandson: Michael Allen, nephew: Chris Hockney.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the Boersma Funeral Home, 90 E Grove St., Wheatfield, Indiana. Services for Shirley will take place at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Joel Irvin officiating.

Private Family interment will follow at the Holland Cemetery, DeMotte, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the World Home Bible League, or Cornerstone Children’s Ranch.
