Robert W Smith

86 year old, Robert W. Smith, of Wheatfield, passed away December 16, 2023, at Franciscan Health Rensselaer, Indiana.

 On September 10, 1937, Robert was born to Ralph and Alice (Owen) Smith in Rensselaer, Indiana. He graduated from Rensselaer High School, class of 1956. He married the love of his life, Nancy Jonkman, on May 17, 2003, in Iowa. Robert served in the U.S. Navy. Robert worked as a lineman for Sprint, and retired as a supervisor. He liked to collect old gas pumps and automobile memorabilia. He enjoyed golfing. He was a member of the Rensselaer American Legion Post #96.

Robert is survived by his wife: Nancy, children: Debbie (David) Williams, Julie (Thomas) Riha, Craig (Kimberly) Smith, Robert (Tracy) Smith, 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and siblings: Floyd Smith, John Smith, Larry (Kay) Smith, Jeanette Randolph, Linda Gangsei, and Nancy Patton.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings: Ralph Smith, George Smith, Rose Wren, Stella Groom, Betty Benson, Harold Smith.

Per Robert’s wishes cremation will take place and his ashes will be interred at Marion National Cemetery, Marion, Indiana
