78 year old, Paul D. Bovenkerk, of Rensselaer, formerly of Wheatfield & DeMotte, passed away April 8, 2021, with his loving wife at his side.
On February 18, 1943, Paul was born in Rensselaer, Indiana to Casper and Maggie (Van Der Molen) Bovenkerk. He graduated from DeMotte High School and worked as a brick/block layer for DeMotte Masonary for several years. He was a member of the Local #41 Union Laborers. Paul was also a 50 year member of the DeMotte American Legion Post #440, and member of the Forty & Eight. He enjoyed working at the legion and helped with Bingo for 30+ years. He married Sharon (Slager) Messmaker in DeMotte, on August 1, 1987.
Paul is survived by his family: wife: Sharon (Slager) Messmaker-Bovenkerk, children: Kevin (Susie) Messmaker, Kristi (Mark) Deavers, 9 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren, siblings: Betty (Ron) Lintner, Calvin Bovenkerk, and sister-in-law: Bonnie Bovenkerk.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Donna (Don) Walstra, brother: Dale Bovenkerk, and granddaughter: Lily Hovis.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the American Reformed Church of DeMotte, on Sunday, April 11, 2021. Services for Paul will take place at the church on Monday, April 12, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Troy Nanninga officiating. Interment will follow at the Holland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials are requested for the family.
