Ora Davis

Ora Lorraine Davis, age 77, of Rensselaer, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, December 25, 2022.

Ora was born on April 5, 1945, in Rensselaer, Indiana to Walter and Della (Brown) Whitaker. She was a lifetime resident of the area. Ora was educated at both Kniman and Wheatfield Schools. On May 5, 1963, Ora married the love of her life, Robert L. ‘Bob’ Davis, at the First Baptist Church of Wheatfield. They were married 51 years, until Bob passed on September 21, 2014.

Ora was a life-long member of the Wheatfield Pentecostal Church of God, in Wheatfield, the church her parents founded in 1967. Ora was the store manager of Babcock fuels at Sculley Square for many years. While working there, she dedicated 28 years of service to the Wheatfield Elementary School, as the Cafeteria Manager. She loved shopping, looking for bargains! She also enjoyed going to music events and listening to Bluegrass music. But most of all, she loved being surrounded by her family. She had an ever-loving bond with her siblings that Could never be broken.

Those left to mourn are: children: daughter: Shelley (Jon) Myers, son: Robert L. ‘Bobby’ Davis Jr., three grandchildren: Brandi (Jake) Hodges, Erica (Adam Bowen) Helms, Darian (Spencer) Dobson, seven great-grandchildren: Alexander ‘Xander’ Wiles, Alayna Wiles, Scottie Hodges, Amelia Wiles, Rosalie Hodges, Haislee Dobson, Ella Rose Bowen, siblings: Jodora Kerns, Booten Whitaker, Frances (Al) Irvine, Larry Whitaker, and brother-in-law: J. B. Howard.

Ora is proceeded in death by: husband: Robert L. Davis Sr., Daughter: Angela M. Bailey, grandson: Scottie Bailey, parents: Walter & Della Brown-Whitaker, sister: Alberta Howard, brother: M. Douglas Whitaker, sister-in-laws: Nora Whitaker, Shirley May Jefferson, Mary Lou Whitaker, Lillian Davis, Kay Whitaker, Jean Davis, and brother-in-law: Clifford Kerns.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at the Wheatfield Pentecostal Church of God, Wheatfield, Indiana. Services for Ora will take place on Thursday evening, at 6:00 p.m. at the church with Pastor Doug Griffith officiating.

Interment at the Wheatfield Cemetery will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family.
