Mary Jane 'Janie' Mitchell

79 year old, Mary Jane ‘Janie’ Mitchell, of Wheatfield, passed away December, 8, 2024, at home with her family around her.

On December 5, 1945, Janie was born to James and Marjorie (Shinkle) Davis in Hammond, Indiana. She graduated from Mt. Ayre Schools, class of 1964. Janie married the love of her life, Elvis Mitchell, on July 17, 1964, at Thayer Presbyterian Church in Thayer, Indiana. She worked as a volunteer art teacher at Lighthouse Christian School while her children were in school, and volunteered in her grandchildren’s classrooms. Janie was a member of Brushwood Global Methodist Church in Rensselaer, Indiana. She enjoyed reading, painting, cross stitch, and doing all sorts of arts and crafts. Janie was an excellent baker who would share her treats with her church and family. She loved to travel and especially loved spending her time surrounding herself with her family.

Janie is survived by her loving husband: Elvis Mitchell, children: Melissa (Jason) Bydalek, Christopher (Libby) Mitchell, grandchildren: Megan Mitchell, Madison (Dan Norris) Bydalek, Brandon Bydalek, Sophie Mitchell, Cecelia Jane Mitchell, siblings: Jim (Lyla) Davis, and Debbie (Mike) Coffer.

Janie was preceded in death by her parents, and daughter: Denise Mitchell.

Per Janie’s wishes cremation will take place.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at the Boersma Funeral Home, 90 East Grove Street, Wheatfield, Indiana. Services for Janie will take place at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Mike Dillon officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Riley's Children's Hospital.
