80 year old, Marvin ‘Sam’ H. Strong, of DeMotte, passed away June 28, 2024, at his home, with his loving family around him.
On July 27, 1943, Marvin was born to Elmon and Leah (Davis) Strong, in Gary, Indiana. He married the love of his life, Sandra Davis, on February 27, 1963, in Halfax, North Carolina. Sam served in the U.S. Navy, in Maintenance Aviation. He also worked as a Millwright at Bethlehem Steel, Arcelor Mittal for 38 years and 8 months. Marvin enjoyed spending time in his workshop doing woodworking, golfing, going out for his daily coffee with his friends. He was an elder for the Christian Church of DeMotte. He was a large fan of KV sports, where he helped run the chains for the football games in the 1980s, and coached little league baseball. Marvin was happiest in life spending time with his grandchildren.
Marvin is survived by his loving family: wife: Sandra, children: Susan Mauger, Mark (Jenny) Strong, Sally (Brant) Molenaar, 9 grandchildren: Caleb, Rachel, Lindsey, Jacob, Maribeth, Isabelle, Kara, Faith, Ellie, 13 great-grandchildren, and brother: Ralph (Linda) Strong.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, brother: William ‘Bill’ (Ernestine) Strong, sister: Charlene (Cliff) Ronk, and son-in-law: Michael Mauger.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at the former Christian Church of DeMotte, 703 15th St. SW, DeMotte, IN 46310. Services for Marvin will be at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 with Pastor Tim Hester officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Haven Hospice, or to Jack & Angie Hamstra, (the Adopting Judah blog) or the Mission Aviation Fellowship.
