Leland Meiss

85 year old, Leland Meiss, of DeMotte, passed away December 25, 2023, at his home with his loving family around him.

On August 1, 1938, in Bloomington, Illinois, Leland was born to Charles and Evelyn (Hinshaw) Meiss. He married Elsie Gramm, on August 10, 1958, in Gridley, Illinois and spent 65 years by her side. In 1981, Leland bought J & H Tire in Hebron, and later added a location to DeMotte in 1992, where it is still operated by family today. He worked as a courier for DeMotte State Bank for 10 plus years after he retired from J & H. Leland enjoyed bird watching, camping, watching football, NASCAR, and being active in his church. He loved the Lord, and was a doting grandfather to his grandsons.

Leland is survived by his loving family, wife: Elsie, children: Murphy (Lori) Meiss, LeAnn Meiss, grandsons: Emmett Meiss, Jacob Meiss, Adonia Dalton Meiss, and brother: Thomas (Bonnie) Meiss.

Leland is preceded in death by his parents, and sister: Connie Kay Lindenbaum.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2024, at the Community Bible Church of DeMotte. Services for Leland will take place at Community Bible Church at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2023, with Pastor Rodney Tolleson presiding. Graveside will follow at Holland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Community Bible Church Missionary Fund.
