89 year old, Julian F. Echterling, of Wheatfield, passed away August 15, 2020 at his home with his loving family around him.
Julian was born to John and Elizabeth (Berg) Echterling on October 21, 1930, in Lowell, Indiana. He graduated from Lowell High School. He served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter mechanic. His next adventure was to attend the Indiana State Police Academy. He retired from ISP in 1987, after 30 years of service. He married the love of his life, Barbara Hardesty on June 16, 1951, at St. Edward’s in Lowell, Indiana. They just celebrated their 70th anniversary. Julian loved to farm. He attended Sorrowful Mother Catholic Church in Wheatfield, Indiana. Julian liked to hunt and especially play euchre.
Julian is survived by his loving family: wife: Barbara, children: Kevin (Brenda) Echterling, Scott (Bibiane) Echterling, and John (Judy) Echterling, 8 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren, and sister: Evelyn Hitzeman.
Julian was preceded by his parents, daughter: Debbra Daniels, son: Leon Echterling, sister: Alice Bult, and brothers: James, Clarence and Jerome Echterling.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 9:00 until 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2020, at the Boersma Funeral Home, 90 East Grove St., Wheatfield, Indiana. Mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2020, at Sorrowful Mother Catholic Church, Wheatfield, Indiana, with Father Paul Cochran officiating. Interment will follow at the Cemetery of the Resurrection, DeMotte, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to VNA Hospice.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, masks and social distancing will be required.
