83 year old, James ‘Ray’ Allen, of San Pierre passed away January 25, 2023, at his home with his loving family around him.
Ray was born on April 19, 1939, to Aaron and Sallie (Wireman) Allen, in Wayland, Kentucky. He served in the U.S. Air Force. Ray married the love of his life, Lora Howard, on February 13, 1965, in Wheatfield, Indiana. Ray worked at U.S. Steel, Gary Works, as an electrician. Ray was a member of the North Judson American Legion Post #92. He liked turning wrenches, especially to bring back to life his 1936 Oldsmobile Coupe, and most recently, he enjoyed his 1967 Buick GT. Those that knew him knew him as a man that was straight to the point but also liked to tell his stories and favorite memories. When work needed done Ray was never afraid to push up his sleeves and get it done and if he didn't know how he'd learn along the way. Whether it was his daughter's or grandkids it didn't matter Ray believed everyone should work hard and learn the value of things, a legacy that he proudly passed onto his family.
Ray is survived by his loving family, wife: Lora, children: Pamela Lorraine (Tim) Bolen, Lisa Rae (Curt) Simic, Teresa Kay (Eagle) Birge, five grandchildren: Loren (Jared) Gudeman, Dustin Campbell, Ashlee (Derrick) Salyer, Dalton (Katie) Campbell, Maci Province, 20 great-grandchildren, and sister: Rita (Robert) Halko.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Louise Kay Allen, and brother: Edgar Lee Allen.
