66 year old, Gene ‘Bud’ Curry, of Valparaiso, passed away September 10, 2020, at his home after a long courageous battle with prostate cancer, with his loving family around him.
Bud was born on April 22, 1954, to Gene and Hilda (Boersma) Curry, in Rensselaer, Indiana. Bud graduated from Griffith High School, and went on to graduate from Purdue North Central. He was a Journeyman electrician for Local #531 for 45+ years.
Bud will be fondly remembered for his love of fishing on his boat with his friends and family, his fondness for family reunions, and for his endless love of his wife and family. Bud immensely enjoyed spending time with his family and would never turn down a game of cards. He especially enjoyed attending and watching his children or grandchildren participate in whatever sport they chose to tackle, and he seldom missed a game or competition. He was always the first to suggest an after-game celebration to extend the time together as a family – usually at Culver’s for a quick sandwich and, of course, his favorite flavor of the day. Bud was incredibly generous with his time often assisting friends and family with household repairs or volunteering in the community by utilizing his knowledge as an electrician to help those in need.
Bud’s deep and loyal devotion to his wife Lola is unquestionable. His commitment to her and their life together of more than 38 years will long serve as an example to his children and grandchildren of a life well lived and well loved.
Bud is survived by his loving family, wife: Lola, children: Hank (Leslie) Curry, Jackie (Andrew) Johnson, Sam Curry, 4 grandchildren: Edward & Logan Curry, Jordan & Bowie Johnson, mother: Hilda Curry-Gilbert, siblings: Margaret (Maurice) Smith, and Phyllis (Bob) White, and his 3 grand-dogs.
Bud was preceded in death by his father: Gene Sr., sister: Sue Sworden, and nephew: Scott Sworden.
Per Bud’s wishes cremation will take place.
