Evelyn Dykhuizen

93 year old, Evelyn Dykhuizen, of Fair Oaks, passed away January 12, 2022 at her home with her loving husband at her side.


Evelyn was born on December 27, 1928, in DeMotte, Indiana to George Sr. and Jennie (Walstra) Hoffman. Evelyn graduated from DeMotte High School, class of 1946. She married the love of her life, John Dykhuizen on July 19, 1949, at ‘Dutch Corner’ Church (First Reformed Church). Evelyn was a housewife, and drove school bus for 20 years. She enjoyed helping John on the farm, gardening, and raising their children. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a charter member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, of DeMotte. Evelyn always helped children with Sunday School Lessons, and taught Vacation Bible School.

Evelyn is survived by her loving family, husband: John, children: Dave Dykhuizen, Bernie (Carolyn) Dykhuizen, Barb (Roger) Liersch, Janet Dykhuizen, Gloria (Jim) Barrera, Ruth (Bill) Dean, 13 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and sister: Janice Schlarp, sister-in-law: Irene Hoffman.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, siblings: Florence (Andy) Hamstra, Bill (June) Hoffman, Kenny ‘Case’ (Evelyn ‘Auntie Sig’) Hoffman, George Hoffman, Larry Hoffman, and brother-in-law: Roy Schlarp,

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 16, 2022, at American Reformed Church, DeMotte, Indiana. Services for Evelyn will take place at the church on Monday, January 17, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Stephan Van Eck officiating. Interment will follow at the Holland Cemetery.


In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church or World Bible League.

Evelyn was my bus driver for many years and she was THE BEST! She loved every child on her bus and made us all feel special. What a blessing her life was to so many!
