Eric V. Stalbaum

Eric V. Stalbaum, 72, of Temple, a devoted family man and dedicated public servant, passed away on November 28, 2023 in Temple, Texas. Born on March 4, 1951 in Rensselaer, Indiana to Mr. Vincent Stalbaum and Donna (McIlvain) Stalbaum Eric led a fulfilling life filled with remarkable achievements and cherished memories.

Growing up on the family farm, Eric developed a love for animals and the outdoors from an early age. His passion for horsemanship led him to participate in local rodeos and showcase his skills in quarter horse displays. After completing his military service, Eric returned to his roots and embarked on a career as one of the Indiana State Marshalls.

With an unwavering commitment to serving his community, Eric then joined the Jasper County Deputy Sheriff's office and dedicated himself to upholding the law. His tenure lasted until 2003 when he decided to retire from his distinguished role. Seeking new opportunities and fresh challenges, Eric relocated to Temple, Texas where he quickly became an active contributor to the community.

Eric's desire to keep making a difference led him to accept a position as a regional manager for Schilli Leasing. He excelled in this role until December 2008 when he ultimately entered retirement. During this time, Eric met the love of his life in 2007, Sheri Lee Wise. Together, they embarked on an incredible journey of camping, dancing, and attending concerts – creating lifelong memories filled with joy and shared experiences. They married on May 8, 2010. 

While passionate about his various careers and interests, Eric was equally devoted to his hobbies outside of work. Cooking brisket and grilling brought him immense joy, allowing him to showcase his culinary skills while bringing loved ones together for unforgettable gatherings filled with laughter and storytelling.

Recognized for his dedication to public service and commitment to the well-being of others throughout his life, Eric proudly served as a member of the National Rifle Association. He also contributed greatly to the City of Temple by serving on various boards, including the Public Safety Advisory Board (PSAB) and the Civilian Police Advisory Committee, where he lent his expertise to help shape policies that would benefit the community he held dear.

Eric's larger-than-life personality endeared him to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Outgoing, funny, and incredibly caring, he possessed a servant's heart that touched countless lives. Known for his selflessness, Eric was always willing to lend a helping hand and had a reputation for giving others the shirt off his back if they were in need. His love knew no bounds – he was a romantic who held unconditional affection for everyone around him. Eric's sentimental nature extended to family heirlooms, which he cherished dearly as tangible reminders of his loved ones. He was a proud grandfather which made precious memories for the children to include; owning their first BB gun, or riding in a limo to the Kevin Fowler concert, and taking them to their first Rodeo. 

Aside from his illustrious professional life and passionate pursuits, Eric took particular pride in his family. He is survived by his beloved mother, Donna Stalbaum, who provided unwavering support throughout his life journey. Eric's adoring wife of 13 years, Sheri L. (Wise) Stalbaum, stood by his side as they built a beautiful life together filled with love and shared experiences.

In addition to his mother and wife, Eric leaves behind cherished memories with his siblings: Dawn Liston and her husband Gary, Cindy Burton and her husband Kent, Kevin Stalbaum and his wife Amy. Memories filled with love will also endure through four children: Becky Heilmann and her husband Mick, John Stalbaum and his wife Min Ju, Tiffany Stalbaum, and Tyler Stalbaum. The joyous legacy of Eric's life extends further with the presence of ten cherished grandchildren.

As we bid farewell to this extraordinary individual who touched so many lives along his journey, we find solace in honoring Eric V. Stalbaum's memory as a loving son, devoted husband, doting father, proud grandfather, compassionate public servant, and cherished friend. His unwavering commitment to his community, contagious sense of humor, and selfless nature will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love and kindness will forever reverberate in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him.

Following a life well-lived, Eric peacefully passed away while taking a nap. It is comforting to know that he rejoiced in his Christian faith, finding solace in meeting his savior. He leaves behind a profound impact on our lives, and we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will forever be with us.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at the Boersma Funeral Home, Wheatfield, Indiana. Services for Eric will take place at the funeral home at noon. Interment will follow at San Pierre Cemetery, San Pierre, Indiana, where he will be laid to rest next to his father, Vince.
