84 year old, Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Kingma of Wheatfield, passed away February 3, 2018.
On October 23, 1933, Betty was born to Cornelius and Jane (Van de Graaf) Van Keppel in DeMotte, Indiana. Betty was a lifetime area resident. Betty graduated from DeMotte High School. She married the love of her life, James ‘Jim’ Kingma on June 8, 1954, in DeMotte, Indiana. Betty worked at DeMotte State Bank for many years, as well as being a farmer’s wife. She loved her gardens, and watching the crops grow. Betty and Jim were the owners / operators of Twin Spruce Christmas Tree Farm, for many years. Betty was tough, always demanding your best effort (do it right or don’t do it at all). Everyone certainly learned the value of a hard day’s work whether it was a paid job, chores, gardening, cooking/baking, or volunteering. She always loved working with the youth, both with the church youth group and the high school. She will be missed by all she touched over the years.
Betty is survived by her children: Joan Keown, Mark (Linda) Kingma, David (Brenda) Kingma, Cathy (Jim) Dykstra, and daughter-in-law Brenda Boelens & Satish Maripuri and 9 grandchildren; sister: Helen Schultz; brothers: John (Barbara) Van Keppel and Junior (Marilyn) Van Keppel.
Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband: Jim; son: Chris; parents: Cornelius & Jane; and 2 brothers, 3 sisters
