93-year-old Edna Mae Foster of Wheatfield passed away January 8, 2012 at the VNA Hospice Center of Valparaiso with her loving family around her. Edna was born August 24, 1918 in Clinton, Indiana to Charles and Adah (nee: Slack) Metz. Edna attended the Fairview Park Elementary School and graduated from the Clinton High School. Edna then attended Indiana State University of Terre Haute where she received a BS degree in Education. On December 23, 1940 in Sullivan, Indiana, she married the love of her life, Dallas Eugene Foster. Surviving along with her husband, Dallas are nine children: Elinor Jo TeVault, James (Carol) Foster, Merry Ann (Marshall) Evans, Dallas Gene (Susan) Foster, Phillip Eugene (Alice) Foster, Marilyn Sue Hart, Paul Douglas (Donna) Foster,
Kenneth Allen (Ruth) Foster and Patricia (Alan) Pointer, twenty-six grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a special friend Michelle Ferrell.
Along with raising a family, Edna found the time to teach school at the Wheatfield Elementary for 23 years. Edna was a devoted member of the Wheatfield Church of Christ, and the Delta Theta Tau Sorority. Edna Mae was devoted to others and a natural teacher in all facets of her life. In 25 years of school-room teaching, she touched the lives of nearly 1,000 young people and was immensely pleased to see their successes as adults. She created a class of her own with a large extended family, to whom she delivered lessons on love, life and living. She enjoyed music and congregational singing and gathered with her family in her last hours to sing together.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, one granddaughter, one sister, one brother and two son in-laws. Friends are invited to visit with the family on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at the Boersma funeral home, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM central standard time. Funeral services for Edna Mae Foster will take place at the Wheatfield Church of Christ at 10:00 AM on Thursday, January 12, 2012, with Jim Lynch Officiating.
