73 year old, Dr. Roy E. Kingma, of DeMotte passed away January 27, 2012 in Valparaiso, Indiana.
On May 9, 1938, Roy was born to Gerben and Teenie (Fase) Kingma in DeMotte, Indiana. Roy graduated from DeMotte High School in 1956. On June 26, 1959, Roy married the love of his life, Sonya Wognum in South Holland. Roy graduated from Calvin College, Indiana University School of Medicine, Interned at South Bend Memorial Hospital, served in the United States Army, and was Board Certified in Family Medicine.
Dr. Roy, was a pillar of the DeMotte community, he served on the DeMotte Town Board as President for many years, was the President of the Zoning Board, an elder at Bethel Christian Reformed Church and First Christian Reformed Church. He also served as Chief of Staff at Porter Memorial Hospital, Medical Director at Crestmark, and owned DeMotte Physicians.
Roy is survived by his wife Sonya, children: Debbie & Roy Gouwens, Phillip & Wenda Kingma, and Paul Kingma, 7 grandchildren: Luke, Kara, Erin, & Leah Gouwens, Courtney, Lindsey, & Brandon Kingma, brother: Harold & Eleanor Kingma, sister-in-laws: Ann Kingma & Betty Kingma and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by many.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, daughter: Karen Kingma, brothers: Sam and James Kingma, and sister: Henrietta ‘Hank’ Kingma.
Friends are invited to visit with the family on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church in DeMotte, Indiana. Services for Roy will take place on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will take place at the Holland Cemetery in DeMotte.
