David M Schaetzel

63 year old, David M. Schaetzel, of Wheatfield, passed away April 29, 2020, at his home with his loving family around him.

On September 4, 1956, in East Chicago, Indiana, David was born to Harry and Virginia (Bell) Schaetzel. David served in the U.S. Army from 1976 to 1979 in the 1st Infantry Division “The Big Red One” and he was in the 207th MP Co. He married the love of his life, Robyn Risner on June 13, 1987 in Rensselaer, Indiana. Dave was a Jasper County Deputy Sheriff officer until he retired, he then served as the Wheatfield Marshall for many years. He was an adopted ‘Risner’, loved his wiener dogs: Jake, Gunnar, Willy, and Jasper.

David is survived by his loving family: wife: Robyn, daughter: Sarah Marie and fiance’: Daniel Daily, and brother: Roger (Kathryn) Schaetzel and of course the ‘in-laws’: Harvey & Harriet Risner, Bryan (Michele) Risner, Loryn (Robert) Venekamp, nieces & nephews: Robert (Natalie) Venekamp, Kelsey Venekamp, Ryan (Ali) Melendez, Eryn Risner (Wade Misch), and Alisyn Risner, great nephew: Robert Venekamp.

David was preceded in death by his parents.

A limited visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 on Saturday, May 2, 2020 at the Boersma Funeral Home, from 12:00 until 1:00 for law enforcement.

Father Paul Cochran will officiate an 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2020, graveside service at Sorrowful Mother Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials are asked for the F.O.P. #189, Shop with a Cop fund.
