David K. Hawkinson

65 year old, David K. Hawkinson “Hawk” of Wheatfield, Indiana, formerly of Tomahawk and Shawano, Wisconsin, drew his last breath here on earth on October 20, 2022. His family is grateful that he isn’t suffering any longer and look forward to eternity.

 

David was born on March 18, 1957, to Donald and Donna (Holton) Hawkinson in Marshfield, Wisconsin. Hawk married the love of his life, Susan Gartzke, on August 14, 1976 in Shawano, Wisconsin. He spent 40 years in the paper industry where he worked his way up to the title of purchasing manager, working for Little Rapids Corp. Shawano Mill, Wausau-Mosinee Paper Corporation, and Packaging Corporation of America in Tomahawk, Wisconsin. He was a supporter of the Heartland Wellness Center in Lowell, Indiana, and a member of the Jaycee’s, Rotary, and United Way of Shawano, Wisconsin. Hawk was a lover of golf, and has had two hole-in-ones. Hawk would spend his days fishing, hunting, traveling, skiing, snowmobiling, and hiking. He was also a talented woodworker, with his grand finale piece, the barn-looking treehouse he made for his grandkids on their farm, being the one he was most proud of. He was a big fan of the Green Bay Packers, and supporter of the Wisconsin Badgers.

 

Hawk is survived by his loving wife: Susan, daughter: Angie (Josh) Perzee, grandchildren: Heidi Joanna, Delilah, Wesley, and Lydia, siblings: Dean (Jean) Hawkinson, Dan (Judy) Hawkinson, Dale (Lisa) Hawkinson, brothers and sisters-in-laws: Sandy Greenwood, Sheree Repinski, Robert (Carleen Nowaczyk) Gartzke, and Greg (Vicki) Gartzke and many nieces and nephews who he loved and adored.

 

Hawk was preceded in death by: his parents, daughter: Heidi Lynn Hawkinson, infant brother: Douglas Hawkinson, and brother-in-law: Garry Gartzke.

 

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. (noon) (CST) on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at Grace Church of DeMotte. Services for Hawk will take place at the church at 12:00 p.m. (noon) (CST) with Pastor Tim Hester officiating. A luncheon will follow.

 

A Celebration of Life will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 30, 2022 at Shawano Lake Golf Course in Shawano, Wisconsin.

 

Interment will take place at a later date at Lake Drive Cemetery, Shawano, Wisconsin.

 

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that NO flowers be given, and memorials are requested for DeMotte Christian School, Grace Church of DeMotte, and the Department of Natural Resources.

 

The family would like to thank the staff and participants at Heartland Wellness Center in Lowell, IN for their teaching, love, support and encouragement these last weeks. He was learning and growing during his time there and was proud of his accomplishments.
