69 year old, Charles H. “Slewfoot” Hendrix, of Wheatfield, passed away on March 21, 2008. Jesus took Charlie home to be with “Momma”. On August 5, 1938, he was born to Archie and Nina (nee: Wagoner) Hendrix of Wheatfield. Charlie attended the Wheatfield High School of hard-knocks. Charlie served in the Army and was stationed in Alaska during the 1950’s. On July 7, 1961, he married the love of his life, Denise Marie “Corky” Mc Neil. Charlie worked at U.S. Steel running a cherry picker for 34 years.
Charlie was an avid member of the Pentecostal Church of God, in Wheatfield. He loved his church and he loved the Lord. He was a 24 year member of the Kouts American Legion. He was a staunch Democrat and union member. A member of the Tri-County React, an avid CB-er, and a member of the Coffee Clutch in Tyson’s where the Ole’ Farts tell lies and talk treason. He was also a member of a widowed senior’s support group where he made and helped many friends. Charlie frequented and was well known for supplying free hugs to the women at Subway, U.S.A Restaurant, Family Express, KFC, Luke’s, Sunrise Laundromat and anywhere else someone needed a hug.
Charlie is survived by 2 daughters, Tina & Anthony Morris, Gena & Mark Maze, 4 grandchildren, Anthony “Andy” & Tyler Cambe, Dakota and Nina Maze, 1 great-granddaughter Ava Cambe, 4 brothers, William & Velma Hendrix, John Hendrix, David (Butch) & Donna Hendrix, and Donald & Sheila Hendrix, 3 sisters, Patricia & James O’Brine, Beaulah & Doug Gourley, and Mary & Howard Brady and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie & Nina, his loving wife, Corky, infant son James, and sister Grace.
Friends are invited to visit with the family on Wednesday, March 26, 2008, from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Boersma Funeral Home, 90 East Grove St., Wheatfield. Services will be held at the Wheatfield Pentecostal Church of God with Pastor Eveston Risner & Pastor Frank McClure officiating on March 27, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be at the Wheatfield Cemetery.
