83 year old, Aike ‘Ike’ Niehof of Wheatfield, passed away at his home on January 15, 2016 with his loving family around him.
On August 14, 1932, Aike was born to Wildrik and Grace (Tiemens) Niehof in South Holland, Illinois. He attended South Holland Christian School, and Diesel Mechanic School. He worked for Walstra Trucking, Hardings, Niehof Repair, Flanagans Trucking, and Rolling Hills Nursery. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. He married Grace Belmore on September 1, 1984, in Roselawn, Indiana. He enjoyed camping, fishing, farming, but most of all spending the day in his garage tinkering, fixing, mechanicing and making unique and useful items from what he had. He also, enjoyed his grandkids, great-grandkids, and watching old westerns and tractor shows. He especially loved his tractor and his dog – Hershey.
Aike is survived by his wife: Grace, children: Lois (Jim) Hart, Darlene (Dale) Hancock, Bill (Cindy) Niehof, Ron Hanley, Theresa (Mike) Etter, 11 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Aike is also survived by his siblings: Nettie (Case) VanderSlelt, Theresa (Jim) Jersernik, and Case (Elaine) Niehof.
Aike was preceded in death by his parents, and nephew: Andy VanderSlelt.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Boersma Funeral Home, 90 East Grove St., Wheatfield, Indiana. Services for Aike will take place at the funeral home at 12:00 (noon) on Wednesday, January 20, 2016, with Family and Friends officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Cemetery.
